how do I check to see if they coils on my 1985 honda shadow VT500 are good?

My bike recently started dragging when I accelerate and it makes a ticking noise when I give it gas. It sounds like it’s either the wires or the coils. I have a big hunch that it’s the coil but don’t want to buy it because of a hunch since they are about 100 bucks new.

What is a good tire for a Honda Shadow Spirit 750 Motorcycle?
